About This Course

This course examines the role of low-income tax clinics and legal advocacy in protecting underserved taxpayers from systemic errors and aggressive collection practices. It covers the legal frameworks governing tax representation, including Circular 230 ethical standards, and provides practical guidance on managing IRS notices such as CP2000 and levy threats. The curriculum addresses specific challenges faced by seniors and immigrant populations, including language access, identity theft, and predatory tax preparation. Participants will review procedural tools like the Collection Appeals Program and Collection Due Process to ensure fair treatment and compliance within the tax system.

Leslie holds a Master in Legal Studies from Washington University at St. Louis School of Law, and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Woodbury University. Leslie is an Enrolled Agent who is admitted to practice before the Internal Revenue Service, as well as a Certifying Acceptance Agent (CAA), authorized to act on behalf of alien individuals and other foreign persons with respect to those person who need to obtain an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) or an Employer Identification Number (EIN) from the Internal Revenue Service.
