Elements of a complete estate plan, how to address common misconceptions, and an explanation of basic estate planning options and concepts.

An estate plan is one of the essential elements of an individual's or family's financial plan. Unfortunately, relatively few people understand what an estate plan is and even fewer have executed one, or the one they have executed is woefully inadequate. This course is intended to provide CPAs, financial advisers, attorneys, and other professionals with a general overview of what estate planning is, who needs it, what elements to look for in a good plan, and how to introduce estate planning and encourage clients to move forward with completing their estate plan. It also addresses and clarifies some common misconceptions about estate planning and takes the student through the imaginary life of Bob and Sally Smith as their estate planning needs evolve over time.

I am a partner and managing attorney at Inter Vivos, PLLC, one of the largest estate planning law firms in the world, with attorneys licensed in all 50 states and in several other countries. My background has been in asset protection and tax planning strategies for business owners, but I focus on and oversee all aspects of a complete estate plan for clients across the country. I also own a tax strategy consulting business. I received my law degree at George Mason University and my undergraduate degree in French from Brigham Young University. I am licensed to practice law in Utah. Clients, advisers, and other professionals appreciate my responsiveness and quality of work. I speak Spanish and French in addition to my native English and can assist clients in any of those languages.
